Young Thomas Wathall was married with a license at Horsley on the 3rd day of February 1846. Parson Symons left Horsley on the 27th day of Feb 1846. The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was opened for Devine Service on Sunday March 8th 1846, by Shelton and Day of Nottingham and ------ Gregory of Belper. Thos. Woolands? preached for the first local preacher March 15th 1846. Thos. Needham fetched the 30 guage frame No. 476 from Ben Parkers shop March 31st 1846. The Wesleyan Sunday school Horsley was first established on the 5th day of April 1846 Old John Taylor died April 11th 1846 aged 90 years commonly called John Martin. Young Benjamin [surname unclear] preached at Horsley Chapel April 19th day 1846 he was a London preacher. Mary Needham the wife of young Samuel Needham died on the 27th day of April 1846 aged 27 years {Thomas Otterwell married her after Samuel Needham died} [Should say Mary Otterwell] William Walters the son of William and Mary Walters was born May 15th 1846. William Bardill and Sarah Welch was married at Derby on the 5th day of June 1846. Old Matthew Martin was found dead in bed June 7th 1846 aged 80 years. Anthony Fisher the son of Hannah Fisher was born June 28th 1846. He died June ? 1846. Frederick Annable left Horsley to go off to London for soldiering on the 5th day of July 1846 he was enlisted a few weeks before that. Little Will Needhams was broken with Hawley's cart wheel on the 6th July 1846. Sophia Taylor and Henry Booth of Heage was married at Duffield on the 12th day of August 1846. Mr Griffiths preached at Creswells? on the 24th November 1846 from Isaiah 40 chap and 6 7 8 verses. Jane Creswell and George Slater of Kiburn Tool Gate was married on the 26th day of September 1846 at Duffield. Selina Taylor the daughter of James Taylor and John Fletcher was married at Horsley on the 29th Sept 1846 Mr Hulliot School master left Horsley on the 7th day of October 1846. ? came to live at Horsley to teach school on the 9th October 1846. 1847 Thomas Wilton the son of George and Eliz'th Whilton died May the 10th 1847 Aged 8 years. Welchs old mare was sold May 20th day 1847. £8 0s 0d. Brittles stopped all their frames on the 22nd May 1847 it was Whitsun eve, it was a time of great trouble and distress among the poor class? of people. We shall have cause to remember this time. Mary Lankashire the wife of Francis Lankashire died on the 18th day of June 1847 Mr. Matthew Abbott fetched his new double shafted waggon from Wm. John Grace Battey was married at Duffield Church? on the 17th day of August 1847. William Peat died August 21st 1847 aged 34 years of age. Old Betty Foulk died September 8th 1847 aged 82 years. Polley Seals first child was born Sept. 8th 1847. It was a boy. Emma Grace was born Sept. 14th 1847, the daughter of John and Caroline Grace. Francis Lankashire Died Sept. 15th 1847 Aged 56 years. Thos. Needham bought a wheel and runners of John Lankashire Sept. 17th 1847 price 5s. Thos. Needham begun to teach at the church school October 24th 1847. Old Bet Martin died at Belper Bastille on the 17th day of July 1848 and she was taken there on the 6th of April 1848. Thomas Needham the son of Joseph Needham died on the 6th of March 1849 aged 6 months. Ratliff Fisher was born March 12th 1849 about 4 o'clock monday morning. The Rev'd Charles Smith left Horsley on the 16th March 1849. Old John Lankashire flitted from Horsley on the 2nd day of April 1849 and Jesse Peat went to his house. Joseph Parker and Mary Slater was married April 9th 1849 at Horsley Church. Thomas Annable and Sarah Annable was married on the 10th of April 1849 at Horsley Church. Mrs. Cart left Horsley on the 7th day of April 1849. Mr. Cart had been interred 12 weeks the day she flitted, she went to live at Derby, and Johnson and Kerrey went to live at her house. Stephen the son of John and Caroline Grace was born April the 18th 1849 and he died the 3rd day after. The Stocking makers took their pressers to the warehouse on the 26th day of April 1849. and began to fetch them back again on the 14th day of July 1849. Old George Parker died on the 5th day of May 1849 aged 85 years. Horsley Stockiners took a load of sand to Derby in a waggon about 24 of them on the 10th day of May 1849 it was a standstill at the time, they got 1s 6d per man. Joseph Noons wife died at Derby Infirmary on the 27th day of May 1849 aged 29 years, it was Whitsunday Eliza Taylor and George Dakin of Mickleover was married at Horsley Church on the 5 day of June 1849. The daughter of James and Mary Taylor Paul Fisher died on the 7th day of July 1849 aged 22 years, he died near London. William Needham fetched a pair of new wheels from John Knifton of Kilbourn on the 30th day of July 1849. John Annable and Jane Street was married at Horsley on the 30th day of September 1849. Ann Barrowclough ? [died?] on the 29th day of Aug. 1849 Aged 83 years. Very dreadful thunder storm on the 30th day of September 1849. Old Francis Seal died October 20th 1849 Aged ? he died very sudden an inquest was held. Mary Topliss of Ilk [Ilkeston] died at Jos'h Needham ? on the 23rd October 1849 aged 66 years, she was mother to Joseph Needhams wife. Eliza Needham the wife of Jos'h Needham Died on 16th day of November 1849 aged 27 years. William Taylor the son of James and Mary Taylor enlisted for a soldier at Derby on the 30th day of November 1849 and was bought ? for the sum of £16 10s 0d. Wards Warehouse was burnt on the 16th day of December 1849 and continued to burn a day or 2. Benjamin Seal the son of John Seal was married on the 25th of Dec. 1849. Joseph Seal the son of Benjamin Seal was married on the 6th of January 1850 at Derby. 1850 John Riley died on the 8th day of January 1850 aged 69 years. He got his death by a cart going over him at Derby on Friday the 4th of the same month. George Smith and Ann Whilton was married February 12th 1850. Catherine Needham died March 25th 1850 aged 18 years. John Annable and Bettsey Slater was married April 1st 1850. Sarah Whilton the wife of Thos. Whilton died on the 1st day of April 1850 Aged 26 years. Martha Spencer died April 23rd 1850. aged 79 years Thos. Whiltons child died April 25th 1850 aged 1 year daughter of the above Sarah Whilton. Sarah Newton died April 29th 1850 aged 16 years. She died at Stailey Bridge. James Wallis died on the 30th day of April 1850 aged 46 years, father in law to John Grace. William Needham begun to work at Wm. Davises on the 3rd day of June 1850. Thomas Wathall died on the 8th day of June 1850 aged 73 years. William Kerrey and Mary Welch was married with a license at Horsley Church on the 7th day of July 1850. Stephen Grace died Sept. 10th 1850 aged 37 years, he was interred at Smalley. Horsley Chimneys was rebuilt Sept. 1850 John Knifton made a new cart for Eliz'th Needham finished on the 1st October 1850. Mr . William Kerrey went to live at Normanton on the 4th day of October 1850 to teach school there. R William Kerry the son of Will'm and Mary Kerrey was born October 9th 1850. Thos. Ratcliff was married on the 9th day of Oct. 1850 to Hannah Fisher. Taylor died Nov 14th 1850 aged 68 years, of French lane. William Seal went to live at Williams Bardills on the 4th day of November 1850 1851 [Thomas began numbering the entries in the diary] 1 William Taylor listed for a soldier the second time on the 28th day of January 1851, the son of James Taylor. 2 John Seal of Coxbench and Emma Ottewell was married at Horsley on the 10th day of February 1851, grandson to old John Wathall. 3 Richard Harrison went to the infirmary on the 10 day of February 1851. 4 Walter Seal the son of John Harrison and Ann Seal was born on Tuesday February 25th 1851. 5 Old Philip Allread died March 14th 1851 aged 91 years. 6 John Knifton died March 14th 1851 aged 37 years, Duffield Bridge Inn. 7 Old Thomas Holmes left Horsley on the 31st day of March 1851 to live with his son George. 8 John Harrison had a child fathered on him on the 21st day of April 1851 at the rate of 2s per week by Mr. Radford of Smalley, it was Easter Monday, by Ann Seal. 9 Thomas Stables the son of Benjamin and Hannah Stables was born on the 26th of April 1851 on Saturday morning. 10 Alderman Scofield preached at Woodhouse on the 12th day of May 1851, Reformer from Sheffield opening of Reform Chapel. 11 Thomas Martin died on the 14th day of May 1851 aged 35 years, he died very sudden. 12 Mr. Meynall son in law to Mrs. Johnson he was killed on the steam road on the 20th of May 1851, left a wife and five or six children. 13 Brittles stopped their frames on Saturday 31st May 1851. 14 James Annables wife died May 26th 1851 aged 38 years. 15 Lucy Parker died June 6th 1851 the wife of Ben'm Parker Aged 71 years. 16 Old Samuel Parker died on Whit Thursday morning June 12th 1851 aged 72 years. An inquest was held over him. 17 A man the name of Francis Knifton from Duffield hanged himself in Samuel Annables stable on tuesday morning June 17th 1851. An inquest was held over his body. 18 Mary Annable the wife of Alexander Annable died June 25th 1851 aged 25 years. 21 ? Butler. 54 Mr. William Wallis of Belper died on the 10th day of October 1853 aged 46 years. 55 Old Betty Lankashire died October 19th 1853 aged 84 years, commonly called Betty Sadler. 56 Richard Harrison died on Sunday morning, November 27th 1853 aged 62 years. 57 Henry Whilton and Lucy Warren was married on Sunday November 27th 1853 at Horsley Church. 1854 58 William Davises second wife died very sudden on 4 day of January, 1854 aged ------ years. 59 Martins room was pulled down on the 19th of January 1854. 60 Anthony Kerry began of building Holbrooks new buildings in August in the year 1853. 61 Joseph Sadler of Coxbench died on the 23rd day of March 1854 aged 74 years, formerly a soldier. 62 April 26th 1854 was held as Fast Day throughout England on account of War. 63 Mary Ann Knifton the wife of William Knifton died on the 25th day of April 1854 aged 38. 64 James Parker died May 18th 1854 aged 67 years. 65 Elizabeth Morley the wife of William Morley died June 27th 1854 aged 41 years, left five children. 66 Holbrooks new house was finished covering in on the 21st of June 1854. 67 Hannah Fisher Ratcliff got her foot bad hurt by the coal waggons on Tuesday 8th August 1854. 68 Joseph Sadler's Relations got their money which he left them on the 14th day of August 1854, to sisters and their children. 69 Robert Moor went to live with John Grace, Rachael on Monday Augt. 21st 1854 from [? Kirk] 70 William Whilton the son of Henry and Lucy Whilton was born on the 7th day of September 1854. On Thursday night. 71 Joseph Davice died September 18th 1854 aged 32 years, at the infirmary. 72 Mr. Holbrook flitted to his new house on the 6th and 7th days of October 1854. 73 Thos. Street and Ruth Annable was married on the 15 day of October 1854. 74 Salley Whiltons first child was born on Saturday night December the 2nd 1854. Old George went to live at Coxbench Nov. 27th 1854. 1855 75 Hannah Middleton died January 17th aged 67, the wife of Jos'h. Middleton. 76 Joseph Middleton died January 24th 1855 aged 69 years. 77 Alfred Taylor and Mary Ann Lankashire was married at Selston on the 21st of January 1855. 78 Maria Taylor the wife William Taylor died January 27th 1855 aged 72 years. Samuel Else of Horsley Park died on the 8th day of February 1855 aged 64 years. Mary Riley died February 8th 1855 aged 76 years. Joseph Cresswell died on the 16th day of February 1855, a very sharp frost at this time. Hannah Ratcliff was taken to the infirmary on Monday February 19th 1855, and stoped 6 week. Edward Smith came to the workhouse to live on the 14th day af April, 1855. Joseph Taylor flitted to Holbrooks house on the 4th day of July 1855 and pulled his house down the two following days. Mrs. Ottewell of Woodhouse died on Whit Monday May 28 1855 aged 74. Young Laxton informed of Thos. Needham June 6 1855, 13 6 to pay. Benjamine Seal died Aug 7th 1855 aged 59. First coals taken by Coxbench Steam Road on the 22nd day of August 1855 from Wooleys field. Fred began to gang pots on the 14th day of Sept.1855 [Refers to Fred Needham the son of the author] William Davise and Martha Woodhouse was married on the 17 day of Sept. 1855 at Derby. James Ratcliff was stabbed on Saturday night Sept. 15th 1855 and lived till Tuesday after and then died aged 22 years, at Woodhouse. Thos. Rodgers died on the 25 of Oct. 1855 aged 49. The womens club in Horsley divided their money on the 30th day of October 1855. Thos. Knifton killed the old horse on the 29th of November 1855. White Ass leg broke December 8th? 1855 Died 6 week after. William Needham entered the club November 12th 1855 3s 6d entrance.
